Community Awareness Meeting November 15, 2011

City of Texarkana, Texas Flood Protection Planning Study Report

For immediate release:

The City of Texarkana, Texas will hold a Community Awareness Meeting on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall for the purpose of presenting the draft final report of the Flood Protection Planning Study.  The study was conducted with the assistance of grant funds from the Texas Water Development Board.

“The purpose of the City-wide Flood Protection Planning Study was to develop strategies to alleviate flooding problems in the Swampoodle Creek, Clear Creek, Howard Creek, and Wagner Creek watersheds in the city,” explained City Engineer Kyle Dooley.  “Citizens may recall that we held public meetings in Summer of 2009 to review the revised preliminary copies of the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM).  We now have proposed solutions to potential flooding issues in these areas.”
